Batterer\u2019s Intervention Program (BIP) is a court-mandated, educational\u00a0experience consisting of an initial assessment, counting as groups #1, an orientation, counting as group #2 and 27 weeks in group.\u00a0 In total, the groups are to be, per court mandate, 29 weeks.\u00a0 The\u00a0model employed by the State of Florida is the Duluth Model, also known as the Power and Control Wheel.\u00a0\u00a0It is a\u00a0recognized and respected program used throughout the United States.\u00a0 Facilitators of the group must be trained and certified to conduct the groups, and they work in collaboration with a coordinated community response team addressing domestic violence.<\/p>\n

A Center for Wellness employs a second power and control model based in wellness practice.\u00a0Roots and Wings: The Way of Wholeness<\/strong> was written by\u00a0A Center for Wellness owner\u00a0Douglas Bonar.\u00a0 The model \u2013 originally named Roots and Wings: The Balance of Healthy Parenting<\/em> \u2013 was\u00a0conceived and presented at a workshop at The Juvenile Welfare Board in 1996.\u00a0 Douglas was then awarded a grant through the Pinellas County Child Abuse Prevention Task Force to prepare a\u00a0slide show presentation based on the model.\u00a0 He subsequently\u00a0conducted the parenting group at\u00a0Family Resources Inc. for the\u00a0Family Builder\u2019s Program for two years.\u00a0 The Roots and Wings: The Way of Wholeness model complements the Power and Control Wheel to further adhere to the goals of the Pinellas County Domestic Violence Task Force.<\/p>\n

A Center for Wellness provides various services to help clients (parents and significant others)\u00a0complete\u00a0case plans tasks once a child abuse report has been made and the case has gone before the dependency court.\u00a0 Services include batterer\u2019s intervention program, anger management, and individual counseling.<\/p>\n
